La Mousmé
by Vincent van Gogh, July 1888

Van Gogh likened this picture to a Japanese girl - a mousmé - although the model was a young girl aged 12 to 14 from Provence. He wanted to create an emphasis on the orange spots on her dress, and in this reproduction sequins have been used to represent them. The wicker chair is represented by corduroy to bring a grooved feel to the wood.
