The Spider (1937)
by Alexander Calder (1898 - 1976)
Tactile Interpretation for
National Galleries of Scotland Art Competition
for Schools 2008

An American sculptor and painter, famous as the inventor of the mobile, which is designed to be seen hanging. The original work is made from thin metal. This interpretation is made from different thicknesses of silk cord and glossy butons. With meticulous searching a set of buttons proportional in size and of matching consistency were sourced to complete this apparently simple image.
